The Trump administration has defended the actions of ICE agents and stated that there are no plans to withdraw federal agents from Minneapolis. The fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent in January has fueled further controversy and outrage. While Trump stated he didn't think it was necessary to invoke the Insurrection Act "right now", he left the door open to using it in the future. This ambiguity only adds to the uncertainty and anxiety surrounding the situation.
Immigration enforcement operations also took place in New Jersey, Sherrill's home state, including a raid in Princeton. Sherrill has stated that she supports New Jersey's Immigrant Trust Directive, which limits cooperation between state police and ICE, but opposes codifying it into law, fearing potential legal challenges.
